Marketing guru Seth Godin believes one person can make a purple cow. (A purple cow is something brilliant and eye-popping.) But a committee? They set out to make a purple cow and end up with a camel (metaphorically speaking, of course).
While the marketing world doesn't always require committees and collaboration to build up viral creations, I feel this is the exact opposite for injury prevention organizations. Our issue tends to be ignored until the worst has happened. At that point people rally around safety for a while and then it's gone from their radar... until the next incident.
Rather than staying trapped in this circle I feel we need to come together for the bigger picture. By getting more people on board and joining forces focused on the future- perhaps we can put the value of injury prevention in the spotlight... without an incident to rally around.
It's for this reason I couldn't be happier about an upcoming Safe Saskatchewan Steering Committee Renewal Workshop happening at the end of September. We are bringing this group back to its roots, a renewed assembly of safety leaders who can be an idea avenue to share information on safety programs and develop partnerships among our safety community. Expanding beyond founding and endorsing partners we will grow and become stronger.
