Saskatoon Health Region Acknowledges Injuries

by Gord Moker

I attended the Saskatoon & District Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday and Maura Davies, CEO of the Saskatoon Health Region gave a "State of the Health Region" Address. While using the health status summary, based on the Chief Medical Health Officer's 2008 Health Status Report, Ms. Davies stated that "the leading causes of premature death as measured by potential years of life-lost continue to be, not cancer, not heart disease, but injuries. Injuries such as suicide, motor vehicle accidents and falls."

Thank you Ms. Davies for acknowledging this and for validating our efforts towards positioning injury prevention as a societal priority!

The full address is posted on YouTube- Part I and Part II.
