I had the opportunity to see safety education for kids in action at the Ethel Milliken School Family BBQ just last week. A beautiful, sunny afternoon was a backdrop for Safe Saskatchewan's Rebecca's Trail Safety Scavenger Hunt whereby kids and their families were engaged in learning about protecting themselves from injury. I'm sure it was a wonderful experience for all the families that were involved and one of the highlights was the appearance of WorkSafe's, Stella the Safety Skunk. Look for the story and pictures of this great event on our website very soon.
In general, people underestimate the importance of family injury prevention education, targeted at children and youth. One SmartRisk/Safe Kids Canada article points Moms and Dads in the right direction by explaining where the risks lie and how parents can keep their homes and their children safe: http://www.smartrisk.ca/news/safe_kids_calls_for_safer_homes.html Take a few minutes to review this article as it's a good read and - - - the information within may just save your child from the potential of an injury at home.
Parents, I'm interested to know your view on things? Besides the list of hazards in the article, do you have experience with any other hazards our children are subjected to?
