Just because we're called "non" doesn't mean we can't embrace and foster change!

Instigating change for non-profit organizations is so important yet many resist, according to Seth Godin's September 15th blog post.

When I think about the important injury prevention awareness and coordination work we do at Safe Saskatchewan, being a change agent is critical to our success as a non-profit. Facilitating a change in attitudes and behaviors about injuries, getting society to change their priorities by positioning injury prevention as a priority and working together to create a change in society that will directly improve the lives of Saskatchewan people, measurably enhance the economic environment for business and save millions of dollars in health and social costs are the essential changes needed to end this provincial injury epidemic. If we can't effect these changes then how can we say we are successful?

And that's exactly the point Seth is making. While change is scary- and sometimes feared by non-profit organizations- it needs to be embraced from an organization's internal perspective so it won't flinch in the eyes of society when it tries to elicit change.

While it is early in Safe Saskatchewan's evolution, we have seen success to date as reflected in our Strategic & Operational Plan and our first ever 2008 Annual Report. Most of this success has come from the passion and help of our injury prevention partners from across the province as we execute our mission of working together to eliminate unintentional injuries in Saskatchewan.

It's been a great ride thus far. I look forward to continued success by working with our partners in this life-saving injury prevention work! Seth's blog post is a good reminder that change shoudn't be feared.
