I picked up my son from school at lunch today and seeing as it was my turn to make lunch, I drove to the Burger King drive through. In most cases, whether you talk to people in the service industry or to friends, a common departing greeting is "Have a good day!"
Today, after I was presented my two double cheeseburger combo deal, my burger guy left me with this message: "Drive carefully." I couldn't help but take notice. His message really sank in. I began to think that perhaps more safety greetings would go a long way towards drawing people's attention to the importance of preventing injuries.
The common element behind safety greetings like drive carefully, take care, be careful etc. is "care". Isn't that really what safety is about? Being careful and looking out after ourselves, our family and friends? Maybe when your child, spouse, brother, sister or friend is leaving your house, you should remind them to "take care"!
