A good friend of mine made me aware of the following Margaret Mead quote: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." I've used it on several occasions and once again, the work of another small group of committed citizens is a testament to the power of community-based organizations, to make a difference. I'm beginning to understand that indeed, the only true, genuine power to effect change comes from and through grassroots - who truly understand the meaning of "community".
Rockglen Safe Stepping Seniors is a group of seniors who have worked to raise awareness and the importance of falls prevention in older adults, within and around their community. Not only are they growing fall prevention awareness but they are sharing their successes and the lessons learned with others, so that they can make the most effective use of their resources. This article placed in local newspapers provides some very valuable information. In particular, I appreciate how the tag line in this article, "Working Together Toward Fall Free Lives", is nicely aligned with the Vision of our provincial Seniors Falls Injury Prevention Strategy of "Saskatchewan Seniors Live Fall Free Lives".
Hat's off to Rockglen's, Safe Stepping Seniors who are making a difference to the quality of life for their community's older adults - - - and their families!!!
